Growing, Growing, Gone…to regular clothes!

Well a lot has happened since the last time we have posted. It just seems like nowadays you can blink and when you open your eyes… your wife appears and seems to have grown another few inches (not to embarrass Sara). But over the past few weeks this process has really seemed to have caught up with her. She now looks “pregnant” (but still very cute) no more denying the fact, she now has to wear maternity clothes or pajama pants around. Although this may not shock many of the experienced parents to me (a rookie parent-to-be) this was like “WOW” you just keep getting bigger, faster. Thankfully Sara has not experienced any major complications up to this point and the results from the ultrasound were very positive. Currently we have a healthy baby with a strong heart beat and everything seems to developing accordingly. No concerns were presented and our baby seems to be very happy.

We have continued to acquire those things that we will eventually need and to steadily get the room ready for the baby. This weekend we started by testing some of the paint and on the walls, and hopefully if all goes well next Sunday we will have made significantly more progress with the room painting. We have also continued the search for the elusive dresser/changing table and hope to make a trip next weekend to look at some possibilities as most of the orders can take up to 11 – 20 weeks for delivery.

We wanted to thank everyone for your positive comments and words of encouragement as things continue to go well for us. This Thanksgiving we will not be in Wisconsin or Illinois, but will in fact be heading out East to visit the Grant Family (Martin, Kari, and Aidan) in Vermont. We hope that everyone has a great holiday and eats lots of good food yummmmm.

Ah, Strollers

After hours of tedious research and hands on experience in a vast number of stores we have finally decided on the stroller. The one we decided to go with had the major features that we liked. It closes folding down upon itself so it’s easy to pick up and get into the car.

One thing I never considered was the sheer number of choices that a family has when searching for a stroller. You can have many different strollers; big, little, colored, plain, some that look like cars, some made by famous designers, and some that play music. Not that there is an overwhelming amount its just seems that choices like this are more likely to be found when purchasing a new car.

So although this might not seem like an important decision to many, to us its another item we can check off our list as we get ready for the arrival of our new addition to our family.

First ever pictures!

So I’m making my blog / website debut today to bring you first-ever pictures of our baby. We went for our appointment today & had an ultrasound. After drinking 60 oz of water, they can get a clear picture of our baby whose size was compared to a medium sized banana.

We had a great tech in training under the RN’s supervision. They take tons of pictures – angling the wand just right to get multiple images of the heart beating, the brain, the head (they took measurements too), they take pictures of the stomach, kidneys, hands, legs, feet & other things that I do not even remember.

At the end, they take some time to get images for the parents to explain and outline what they see. You can see we have a few profile pictures of our “good picture taker”, some of the legs (looks like baby is resting comfortably), one of the feet. The arms can be seen in a couple of the profile pictures.

Overall (after going to the bathroom), the ultrasound tech & nurse said they could not interpret anything, but they found all the things they were looking for. They remarked how the baby was a good picture taker because he/she stayed still for some of the tough heart & brain images.

We went to see one of our midwives after the ultrasound. She took measurements & measured my tummy at 21” which is in line with my 21 weeks. She took a look at the heat rash I’ve developed & didn’t seem concerned. Her advice was to keep cool, stay moisturized, and to take Benadryl to sleep if necessary.

All in all, we confirmed that the baby is there….he/she has two arms, two legs, and is growing well all alone inside (no twins). We will get actual doctor results tomorrow.

An Exciting Monday Night!

As the three of us (Sara, Little Monkey, and I) sat and watched the game on Monday night I was disheartened to see the Bears off to such a bad start. It wasn’t looking good going into the half down by 20 points and then it happened. You could say it was from the energy building from the Bears sack and fumble recovery for a touchdown, or from the unrelenting need to cheer. But as we sat and watched the “magical” Chicago Bears play on Monday night football we were blessed with the opportunity to have some fan cheering from within.

Yes, as we sat and watched the game we were first able to feel the sporadic movement within Sara’s belly. It was very faint, but every now and then it was a big kick. This was amazing to watch, as this new life develops inside and untouched by the world, and yet can have so much impact already. We had to stop and admire the sheer amazement of what is truly becoming a miracle within.

Oh and congrats to the Chicago Bears who remain undefeated for now at 6-0 with a spectacular (but not the best news of Monday night).

Baby’s Room Additions

This weekend we were successful in selecting a border and a bedding set. They are similar and will compliment each other we decided to go with an alphabet theme for the room.

This is the picture of the border for the walls in the room.

This is a picture of the bedding set we choose. From it we have the quilt, crib sheet, crib bumper, and matching ruffle.

4 1/2 down and 5 1/2 to go :)

This month Sara and I will be celebrating our 1-year anniversary and this also marks the almost midway point in the pregnancy. I am excited as we continue to solidify plans and research items that we want to purchase for our little one. Sara has been working diligently and we have made several trips to the local baby stores in Appleton, WI. It is always fun to see what we are going to find and what direction we are going to go with the new baby room. I never knew there are so many decisions that have to be made (what color stroller, what type of bottles, should outfits have buttons or snaps, boy or girl, etc) eeeks… But things are good!

Actually if you look really really hard you might see the little one there in Sara’s tummy.

Third Midwife Visit

Sara is working on typing this up 🙂

But from what I know (Matt) she went and everything tunred out ok, all the blood work came back very good and the baby is gaining at a healthy rate. We are exctited to see that both mom and baby are coming along nicely. Sara had a chance to meet the second nurse midwife that will be helping us along the way. She also heard the heart beat and things sounds great. While they were listening the sound stopped for a minute and they midwife said “looks like the baby is moving.”

Welcome!

Welcome to the new website we designed to help us celebrate the jouney we have embarked upon to become new parents. We are expecting our first child which is due in March 2007. We look forward to sharing this experience with you all.
